Sushi@Asia One

I hope the above picture doesn't make you hungry but that shrimp tempura is delicious. There is always room for Sushi in the wine/dine section on my expense report. Here is a typical month of expenses for the Mongrel household. Keep in mind that some of these are split between my significant other and I.  Also keep in mind that I rounded the cost of expenses to the nearest dollar. So these figures are all estimates.

*In the future I will be adding my expense report as a part of my Dividend & Interest Earnings posts.

I have created two dividend calendars which show the total dividends I will be receiving for each month. You can find these calendars on the right side of my page under the title marked Dividend Calendars. You can also click Loyal3 Dividend Calendar or Mongrel Dividend Calendar . I am constantly trying to come up with new ways to keep track of all my finances which will definitely make my job easier when tax season comes around. I also like to share new ideas with the readers and I hope everyone likes the new changes that I have made.

Update:
I forgot to mention I completed my first goal for the year. Thanks Tawcan for reminding me of this. I no longer have an outstanding credit card balance!!!

2014 Goals
  • Pay off all credit card debt (completed 8/7/2014)

  1. Very reasonable expenses. I hope the credit card expenses is not to pay off credit card debt. :)

  2. Tawcan,
I currently have no credit car debt but I will continue to use my credit card for the cash back rewards. I am looking to now pay off the student loan debt within the next month or two. This will lower my monthly expenses and will allow me to have more money to invest. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I like the new Calendars, however it would be great if you provided a total column on the right as well, totaling each holding, and then overall expected dividends to be received in the year.

That's actually a great idea. I will try making the changes this weekend. Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Personally I pick Silva over Diaz and Cormier over Jones. The Diaz/Silva fight could be epic. Silva is so elusive but Diaz usually throws so many jabs he's not like the people who've fought Anderson before. Nick uses the jab so effectively I really think it's going to give Silva a hard time. Still Anderson should be the winner here. As far as Cormier, I just think he takes Jones down and uses the ol ground and pound.

Mongrel, do you take Gracie Jiujitsu ? I know there's some Gracie gyms near me.

    2. I watch MMA once in a while. I am looking forward to the upcoming fights A-G mentioned. I would agree with the Captain that Silva is very dangerous standing and he also has a good ground game we don't see much of. Cormier/Jones is a tough one to call. If they stand Cormier might be in trouble with the reach disadvantage. Jones also has the speed advantage. However look for Cormier to take Jones to the ground. Cormier is an Olympic wrestler and this really separates everyone that Jones has fought before. I'm going to go with Silva and Cormier.
@CD I don't take Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, but our master instructor did get his black belt from Carlos Gracie. We are affiliated with American Top Team from Coconut Creek, FL. I couldn't ask for a better school. Thanks for the comments guys. Enjoy the weekend!

  6. Thanks for sharing your expenses for July. I see you pay for Jiu-Jitsu which is a similar monthly cost I have of $100 for Tae Kwon Do. I have been doing it since 1992 and it is an expense I am willing to keep on having as it has become a big part of my life. Others in the frugal living blog community might think these expenses are in excess but I don't. By the way, that sushi photo looks awesome and tempts me big time.

    1. Hey DivHut,
I've been paying for my membership for 3 years now and it has been worth all the money I spent. In my area $90/Month is very cheap compared to other school. I was locked in this rate and it will not go higher. I have heard of other school charging between $130-$180/Month which is too expensive. I agree that martial arts does become a part of your life. I am looking to try cutting out some of my other expenses. BJJ keeps me fit, and it could save my life someday. I am sure you feel the same way with Tae Kwon Do. Have a great weekend!

  7. Mongrel,

Mmm, sushi! I love sushi. I could eat it almost every single day!! :)

Your expenses are impressive. How do you have such low rent? That's fantastic!

    Keep up the great work.

    Best wishes!

  8. DM,
The total rent for my apartment is $500/month, but I split that with my significant other. I am hoping to bring down expenses a little lower in order to bring up my savings rate. I would be happy with expenses being $1200/month or lower. I know some people who have a $1200/month mortgage or rent. I love the local Sushi bar because we can usually eat for under $20. I am trying to keep the cost of restaurants under $100/month. The girlfriend wasn`t too pleased with the idea. lol. Thanks for stopping by!

  9. congrats on paying off youre credit cards debt! I noticed that you have Dish for your TV? why dont you switch to Roku and netflix or if you so want to have TV ask comcast for a deal? at least it might be less.

    1. I have asked a bunch of friends and family about what the pay for cable and everyone who has Comcast seems to be paying over $100 just for cable. I bought my dad a Roku and he streams Amazon Prime which is kind of like Netflix. The problem for me is I don't want to give up watching NFL, HGTV, Comedy Central, Colbert Report, etc. I am currently a happy Dish customer because they don't charge ridiculous fees and the customer service is great. If I were tight for money, I would consider canceling for sure. But the NFL season is just around the corner and I can't go without that. lol. Thanks for stopping by!

  10. Personally groceries seems high. Also unfortunate that you're paying for Television. Although seemingly expensive, I think Jiu-Jitsu is a good expenditure. I pay between $35 and $80 per month for rock climbing depending on what's going on. Other than that your spending looks very close to mine.

    Thanks,

  11. Hey WE,
The grocery bill is a little high for a few reasons. We buy a ton of healthy food, including gluten free and organic products. I also buy a 6 pack of beer which I add into the food cost. I love Sam Adams beers! Still I think we could do a little better if we try looking for some coupons. It's something I am going to consider once we get our printer to work... I also can't see myself giving up Jiu-Jitsu at this point in my life but things may change when I start getting into real estate. Jiu-Jitsu is currently my only form of fitness and the bonus is I am learning practical self defense. The other thing is $90/month is a bargain compared to other schools but that is because I got locked in at that rate 3 years ago. Rock climbing must be intense. I imagine you need a ton of upper body strength for that. Thanks for stopping by! Best of luck to you!

  12. Mongrel - Congrats on paying off your credit card debt! Now your most powerful wealth building tool (your income) has more power.

By the way, I like your top commentators section. You might find one on my blog soon. :)
