*Update: Motif just called to inform me my order wasn't able to be executed on Friday. Therefore I was able to get cheaper prices on 9/10 of the stocks listed below. It's always great to get the cheapest price possible. The market continues to trail lower due to the price of oil and possibly people selling off due to consumer spending for the holidays.

DM,
ReplyDeleteTelecom and energy look like the best areas to finds bargains right now. Canadian banks appear undervalued as well, but I probably will steer clear of banks for now.
MDP
MDP,
DeleteCanadian banks are lookin good but I only plan to add to BNS for now. I don't want to add too much risk in banking or energy at the moment. I am hoping to continue adding to these 10 stocks throughout 2015. I am getting an overall 4% yield which is pretty good in my book.
Keep plugging away Mongrel. You're doing great and $700 in dividends is nothing to sneeze at. I'm just hoping this volatility will continue so I can put more capital to work. I quit reinvesting our DRIP accounts last year, but if oil goes much lower I'll kick those back over to reinvestment for sure. Consumer Staples and Utilities still look overpriced to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. Have a great week

IS,
DeleteI added about $28 to my annual dividends which isn't bad at all. The overall yield in this portfolio is slightly over 4%. I decided that I would drip dividends in my share builder account because I want to put the extra money to work right away. However I reinvest my L3 dividends into other stocks because only a couple of companies allow you to drip.
Nice batch of stocks there Mongrel... the biggest thing holding me back on Motif is the $10 per trade. Sure the $150 kickback would cover the first 15 trades, but I'd feel compelled to invest $2,000 per shot just to justify the expense. Perhaps something to look at in 2015.
ReplyDeleteW2R,
DeleteI couldn't agree with you more when you said you would feel compelled to invest $2,000 per trade. In order to get the bonus I have to make 5 trades at $9.95. I wish I had the $10,000 to invest but unfortunately I am running low on capital. Part of it is because December has become a very expensive month for me. After I execute the 5 trades and receive the $150 bonus I will definitely look into investing $2000-$3000 per trade in order to take advantage of the buying 10 stocks with a $9.95 commission. If I bought the same 10 on Sharebuilder, I would have to cough up $6.95 for each. Thanks for stopping by and signing off on these buys.
Good trade all around. The only one I'm unfamiliar with is NGG.
ReplyDeleteBDI,
DeleteIt seems that these 10 stocks are experiencing some volatility at the moment so I am glad to average down. I think things will pick up after the New Year and I am going to keep investing as much as I can. National Grid is the electric company I use and they are very well known in the Northeast. They offer a nice dividend 5.16%
Keep up the good work. Solid buys all around.
ReplyDeleteTawcan,
DeleteThank you for liking my purchases. I got a call from Motif today because my order didn't execute on Friday. I was able to get cheaper prices with the dip today.
A very diverse set of stocks. Quite a few names are in my portfolio from that list. Thanks for sharing your recent buy.
ReplyDeleteDivhut,
ReplyDeleteI was focusing on staying as diverse as possible. Most of these are currently fairly valued at the moment. I am glad to have some of the same names in your portfolio. That makes me feel much better because I am hoping to hold these for a few decades. I was glad to get cheaper prices today because my order didn't execute on Friday.
DM,
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of opening a new Motif Account but confused on the fees. I understand the $10 for trading all the stocks but what is the $4.95 about? If I buy BAX during my first motif and buy it later, I have to pay the 4.95 with the $10? Thanks
BDI,
ReplyDeleteMotif is a little confusing and I am still trying to figure the platform myself. The $9.95 is the trading fee when you purchase a basket of stocks or rebalance your portfolio. However you can add one position for the $4.95. So if I wanted to add to just one stock or if I wanted to add a position I didn't have I would only be charged that $4.95. I have not tried it yet though. I hope I answered your question. Have a great weekend!
