Recent Sell (MAT)

Sold Mattel (MAT) 27 Shares @ 23.13/Share
Total Proceeds - $624.51

Today I had to make the tough call of selling off a company that I feel doesn’t have much going for them. Recently I thought about adding shares to Mattel, in order to average down my cost basis. I ended up just selling all 27 shares because I feel like this money can be used in a better investment. There has been talk of a dividend cut or freeze and I don’t think that has been priced in yet. Trying to catch a falling knife is always a bad idea and has a certain level of risk that I am not willing to take. At the same time I am unsure of what I will be doing with the funds from the sell. RetireBeforeDad just wrote a great article on why he sold Mattel.

If you get a chance please vote on my newest poll on the right labeled “Which Company do you think will Experience the Most Growth in 2015”?

To Sell or Not to Sell..

ARCP has been a thorn on my side..
  • ARCP is still lingering through its accounting and management problems.
  • They cut the dividend and I have no clue when it will be coming back.

 I also have to consider........

Will interest rate increases affect this company in the short term.

Some people might say if ARCP keeps selling off, scoop up some more shares.

I say there may be no quick fix and it could take a while for them to get their books in order.

Now what should I do?

  • I'm still holding onto my shares at a small unrealized loss.
  • The company's dividend suspension was disheartening but it may come back.
  • I will only see a small loss if I sell now. (Approximately $155)

  • So the question I ask everyone is should I Hold, Sell, or Buy in this situation. What would you do?

    Recent Sell (SNE) Sony

    Cape May, New Jersey
    • As I mentioned to a fellow reader. Sony was my first stock pick back in January when I had no idea about how the stock market works. I actually picked it up because I thought the PS4 would be enough to make the stock go up, but later I realized that was not the case. I am much wiser now and I read that SONY has now cut it's dividend due to it's struggle with the mobile phone business. So I could sell and put my money to work somewhere else or hold and see if they will make a comeback. It's just very disappointing that they cut their dividend since going public in 1958.

    • I thought it made sense to me back in January. I didn’t know other things could affect the stock price such as currency, wars, and earnings reports. I remember Sony dipping over 20% at one point. Even now I think the stock is down 15% since I have owned it.

    • I have held on to Sony for a couple of reasons. Number one being I think the company had a ton of innovation left in them and they are currently winning the console war against Microsoft. Secondly, every Sony product I have ever owned is made with the greatest of quality. Thirdly, I haven’t lost any money because I haven’t sold the stock.
    • Well I had some hope until they announced the dividend cut. I have no choice but to finally sell and invest my money elsewhere.
    Sell 45 Shares for $793

Would you sell Sony after the dividend cut or would you hold and wait to see if Sony will turn things around? Selling would mean a $160 loss, but you could reinvest the remaining $793 into another dividend paying company.
